Chelsea's work supports farm to school efforts across Iowa. She serves as the state partner representative for FoodCorps Iowa, on the Iowa Farm to School Network, and leads evaluation efforts around state farm to school programs and events. Equitable and just food systems grow through farm to school, and Chelsea is committed to centering this in her work and partnerships.
Chelsea grew up in the Quad Cities near the Mississippi River. Her appreciation for food and community grew at the University of Iowa where she served as a manager of the campus organic garden and president of the University’s Environmental Coalition. She has a BS in geography, a degree that centered on local and regional food systems, food justice, and natural resource conservation. Before working for Iowa State Extension, Chelsea served with FoodCorps Iowa for 5 years--first as a service member in Des Moines Public Schools and then as the state fellow for three years.
You're likely to find Chelsea exploring school gardens, kitchen classrooms and school cafeterias, learning alongside students and partnering with educators around food in school. She believes in project-based, participatory learning, that we can create equitable access to Iowa-grown food, and that farm to school puts the heart in heartland.
