Introductory farm to school webinar set for October 19
by Caitlin Szymanski, program coordinator
Learn about farm to school programming in Iowa and how you can grow your county extension office’s engagement with youth, educators, producers and community members! We will offer a webinar on Thursday, October 19 from 10 – 11:30 a.m. for an interactive Introduction to Farm to School webinar! Click here to register.
The extension local foods county needs assessment results from this past spring showed a very high interest across extension regions and staff positions for learning more about how to engage with Iowa farm to school efforts. This webinar will help you learn more about farm to school in Iowa and how ISU Extension and Outreach county staff around the state are engaging with new community partners to support healthy kids and economic opportunities for local producers.
Whether you are a complete newbie to farm to school and its main facets (local procurement, nutrition education and school gardens) or are currently engaged, we hope this will be a great opportunity for you to learn about resources and tools at your disposal for this work and to hear stories from colleagues in county offices who have made farm to school a priority. If you have a farm to school story to share, we want to hear it!
We have a great group of people ready to share experiences and resources with you from ISU Extension and Outreach and other statewide organizations:
- Lynn Heuss (ISU Extension & Outreach Local Foods Program)
- Chelsea Krist (Iowa FoodCorps Fellow)
- Laura Liechty (Iowa 4-H Youth Healthy Living Specialist)
- Kate Olson (Program Coordinator for Cass County)
- Ann Torbert (4-H Youth Development specialist in Linn County)
- Teresa Wiemerslage (ISUEO Local Foods Program)
- and the voice of a youth who has benefited from and been involved with farm to school in her school.
Whether you are a county director or program coordinator, CYC, local foods coordinator, Master Gardener or horticulture coordinator, we hope you can join us! Non-extension staff are also welcome to participate.
