Delicious Healthy Snacks Workshop

Fayette County 4-H Council hosted a project workshop helping 4-H members prepare “Healthy Snacks.” The group of participants, six youth, 4th through 8th grade, were very interested in learning how to select healthy recipes, how to properly measure ingredients and how to mix ingredients together. The participants were thrilled that they each got to mix up their own recipe to take home to share with their family members to enjoy!

A highlight was when one youth participant didn’t have the correct measuring cup that was needed. A 4-H Council member worked with them to incorporate math skills. At first the youth was a bit hesitant, but then said, “that’s like using fractions!” and continued mixing up the Chewy Granola Bars. The whole group celebrated the big win!! Other snacks made included Peanut Butter Balls, Energy Bites, and Crunchy Apple Roll Ups, all recipes from the Iowa State University Extension and Outreach free resource, “Spend Smart. Eat Smart.” website
