The Equine Science program at ISU utilizes the historic horse barns located on campus and the newer Equine Learning Center located on Mortensen road. The horse farm provides students with the opportunity to learn and work in a hands-on setting. The historic barns on campus house two student apartments, an office, reproduction lab, equine treadmill, and a classroom. The Equine Learning Center offers an additional 25 stalls, lab, breeding area, and summer pasture.

Equine Management Option

The equine program is within the Department of Animal Science and a specialized option, Equine Management, is available for students. The Department of Animal Science Undergraduate Program intends for its graduates to be able to explain the symbiotic relationship of animals and humans, to contribute to the solution of complex problems of animal enterprise management, and to apply their knowledge and skills in a technically demanding global community. Graduates of our program will be knowledgeable about sustainable animal production practices that also ensure animal health and well-being and stewardship of natural resources.
