Ranch Riding and Horsemanship Clinic for Youth

Join us on Saturday, May 4 for a Doug Bogart Ranch Riding & Horsemanship Clinic!

Are you interested in riding in the clinic or attending the clinic and speakers? Are you ready to be inspired and learn something new from an AQHA & NRHA Professional equestrian, trainer and judge? Look no further and attend Iowa Equine Day Ranch Riding & Horsemanship Clinic with Doug Bogart.

Doug BogartDoug will help you set goals, improve your skills, and guide you through required and optional ranch riding maneuvers. Doug is an AQHA and NRHA Professional Horseman. He is a certified instructor with the American Riding Instructors Association, Level III Western and Reining. Doug has over 30 years’ experience training, riding and showing horses and instructing riders. He has trained horses and riders to show ring success in Reining, Ranch Riding, Dressage, Western Pleasure, Western Horsemanship, and Hunt Seat.

Doug has won over twenty year-end championships. Most recently, he trained and showed KM The Best of Jazz to the 2017 AQHA Junior Ranch Riding High Point award. He also rode the 2018 Buckeye Ranch Riding Futurity Champion and Reserve Champion horses. He currently trains at Schmidt Farm in Milan, IL.

To participate in the clinic you need to complete the Participant Questionnaire by April 15th. From the submissions, 12 RIDERS will be chosen and divided into 3 groups with similar skills. Doug will work with each group tailoring the clinic to each group’s skill level. Riders will be videotaped. At supper, Doug and the clinic participants and auditors will review videos and discuss scoring & judging. Please call Doug at (309) 787-4271 for more information.


Equine Nutrition — Joel Edge has showed & trained horses while in 4-H and FFA. Joel spent internships at Oxbow Ranch in Oregon riding Cutting Horses & rode colts for many local trainers & breeders in Central Iowa. Joel was an Assistant Trainer at Gambrel Ranch Cutting Horses and trained horses for Middendorf Farms. Joel is a very loyal supporter of the NCHA, AQHA, IQHA, APHA Associations and in 2016 his daughter finished in the top 10 at the Youth World Quarter Horse Show in Youth Mares where she also qualified in three events. Other activities include the Iowa Harness Horsemen’s Association, the Iowa Ranch Horse Association and the Spring Fling Racing Team in Minnesota. Joel has worked for Purina Animal Nutrition for 6 ½ years concentrating heavily on equine, show feeds and cattle in Eastern Iowa and Western Illinois.

Insurance for Equine Events — Wade Ellerbroek is an avid Quarter Horse breeder and exhibitor. Wade is an AQHA life member & was IQHA director for 6 years, President of the IQHA for 3 terms and is an IQHRA member. Wade has also been an AQHA national director & international committee member. Wade has had 65X World and All American Congress top l0's, IBHA 2 Time World. Champion IBHA 2 Time Reserve World Champion. Ellerbroek & Associates has been in the insurance business since 1912

First aid & Emergency Care for Horses & Humans, Vaccinations Required for Your Horse  and What to Look for When Purchasing a Horse? Dr. Houlding received her DVM from Iowa State University. She is a Horse Show Veterinarian for USEF Hunter, Arabian, Saddlebred, & Dressage shows. She has been a Field Testing Veterinarian for USEF for many years. Dr. Houlding raises AQHA & TB horses that are successful on several tracks & horse shows. She is an USEF Steward and a USEF R Jumper Judge. Dr. Houlding is a leading breeder of hunter, hunter breeding and jumper horses and was breeder of the 2018 AQHA Select World Working Hunter Champion Indian Artisan. Dr. Houlding actively practices in a mixed veterinary practice. 

Zoonotic Disease Prevention &  Biosecurity — Dr. Lee received her BS in Animal Science from Michigan State University, her DVM degree from Iowa State University, and her MS in Public Health from the University of Iowa. Dr. Lee is board certified in the American College of Veterinary Preventive Medicine. As a veterinary specialist with the Center for Food Security and Public Health at Iowa State University, Dr. Lee contributes to a variety of projects related to emerging, zoonotic, foreign, reportable, and other infectious diseases of animals. Prior to her current position, she practiced mixed animal medicine in rural Kansas. teaching in-hand work, camps, seminars, clinics and lessons. 

Wearing a Helmet? It’s a No Brainer! - Sandee McKee is an avid trail rider & travels many states with her horses.  She previously owned Iowa Valley Carriage and set up as vendor at all of the major carriage events in the Midwest.  The American Driving Society made helmets mandatory so Sandee carried a top line of helmets and worked to learn as much as she could about helmet fitting, construction and safety.   When she sold Iowa Valley Carriage . she started a new business Horse Trails Less Traveled that carries products for the serious trail riders including helmets.  Sandee wears a helmet every time she rides.

Horse-Rider Biomechanics & Proper, safe & humane tack —  Theresa O’Keefe is a CHA certified instructor, PATH certified instructor and USDF regional qualifier, Theresa has 19 years riding experience, 6 years professional teaching experience and holds a Riding Master certificate from Meredith Manor. Theresa has been coached under well-known dressage trainer, Bill Coester & ridden with 4-time Canadian Olympic dressage rider, Cindy Ishoy. With a focus on horse and rider biomechanics, Theresa has worked with beginner-advanced western, 4H, dressage and jumper riders.
