To legally sell morel and oyster mushrooms in Iowa, sellers must complete a certification workshop that covers identifying morels and oyster and distinguishing between true and false morels. People can be poisoned by eating misidentified mushrooms. By the end of the workshops, participants will recognize true edible morel and oyster mushrooms.
There will be two ONLINE workshops on Saturday, March 20th, and April 3rd, 2021, from 2 to 4 p.m. You only need to participate in one of the sessions to receive certification.
This class will cover best practices for growing vegetables in containers.
Topics for this class will include: starting seeds indoors, selecting tomato varieties, planting, trellising, pruning, pest control and more.

The Produce Safety Alliance (PSA) Grower Training Course is one way to satisfy the FSMA Produce Safety Rule requirement outlined in § 112.22(c) that requires ‘At least one supervisor or responsible party for your farm must have successfully completed food safety training at least equivalent to that received under standardized curriculum recognized as adequate by the Food and Drug Administration.’ Get more information about the PSA course here.

The plant sale has been canceled due to the COVID-19 outbreak. Follow the Des Moines County Master Gardeners Facebook page to learn more about the projects that they are working on and to have garden questions answered.
Des Moines County Master Gardeners will be holding their annual plant sale on Saturday, May 2nd at Homestead 1839 in West Burlington.
There will be a wide variety of plants and short garden demonstrations throughout the morning.
