Medium red shrub. The ovoid-pointed buds of dark red open to double (35-40 petals), cupped,, 4-4.5 inch blooms of Indian lake (RHSCC 59B) which darken and develop purple tones with age. The blooms are borne in clusters of 3-5 and have an old-rose fragrance. The abundant leathery foliage is dark green and has good tolerance to foliar disease. The thorns are brown and awl-like. The erect plant is moderately bushy and blooms from early June until killing frost. Plants are winter-hardy in Iowa without protection.
