Discrimination and Harassment Policy and Reporting Procedures

Iowa State University's Discrimination and Harassment Policy and its procedures for reporting discrimination are found in its policy library and the Office of Equal Opportunity's website. In general, ISU Extension and Outreach's procedures for reporting discrimination follow the same procedure as a discrimination complaint regarding behavior on campus. If a county employee is alleging a university employee has discriminated against them or vice verse, then those reports of discrimination should be directed to the Office of Equal Opportunity. The Office of Equal Opportunity's menu of options to enlist to resolve the situation are more limited if the prospective respondent is a county employee.

The only exception to this general reporting procedure is if a county employee alleges another county employee or county elected official treated them in a discriminatory manner. This exception only applies if both the prospective complainant and respondent are county affiliated. Under those circumstances, the county employee is directed to report these concerns internally to their regional director. If the county employee does not believe their county extension council will be receptive, then they can report these concerns internally to the Iowa Extension Council Association's legal representative, Jaki Samuelson, at Whitfield and Eddy. County employees can also report these concerns to the Iowa Civil Rights Commission.

Complaints must be made in writing. A written complaint will just be a written statement of the allegations signed by the complainant.  An email stating the allegations, sent by complainant also satisfies the signature requirement.
