NOW HIRING: 2021 Summer Youth Educator

Job Purpose
The Summer Youth Educator supports Iowa State University Extension and Outreach with the preparation and delivery of summer educational programs. Primary responsibilities include support and coordination of K-12 youth camps and help with fair preparation and delivery as part of the 4-H Youth Development Program in Dickinson County. The Summer Youth Educator will help to improve the effectiveness and efficient delivery of programming to the youth of Dickinson County.
 
Job Responsibilities
  • Primary focus of work will be assisting staff in a fast-paced environment on projects for educational events, county fair and marketing.
  • Prepare supplies for educational programing, prepare locations for camps, help with camp check-ins and provide other assistance as needed.
  • Provide additional help preparing and implementing fair showcase programs.
  • Work with office personnel, Youth Program Specialist and families to organize, prepare, and deliver youth programming.
  • Report to the staff in an efficient manner in all aspects of program details relevant to program success under the direction and supervision of the Dickinson County Extension Council through reporting to the K-12 Educator.  
  • Maintain detailed records of program impacts, attendance, and pictures for use in reporting and marketing.
  • Post pictures and updates from programs on Extension social media following official guidelines.
  • Provide excellent customer support, greet clients and partners in and out of the office professionally.
  • Other duties as assigned by the County Extension Council.
Qualifications
  • Be able to communicate effectively in verbal and written form with customers and staff members.
  • Be able to work effectively and efficiently with others (teamwork) in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize events and activities for the best possible outcomes.
  • Ability to manage and maintain details to ensure efficient and speedy completion of projects and activities.
  • Comfortable working outdoors and with small children and animals.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Basic computer skills using Microsoft Office, e-mail, internet and social media.
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a motor vehicle are required.
  • Be approved through the Child Protection and Safety Program.
  • Proficient with office machines, i.e., typing, copying, and telephone.
  • Proficient with a digital camera.
Other Information
  • Hourly position, 32 hours per week average, with variation depending on activities and projects in process (work week negotiable within normal hours: M-Th, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with exceptions as needed).
  • Employment will last from late-May to mid-August, approximately 11 weeks.
