Robot Mania Held in Manchester

ISU Extension and Outreach Delaware County hosted Robot Mania for area K-3rd grade youth on June 18th at Memorial Hall at Seibert Park.
The morning of the camp youth took turns acting like human robots and tried  to navigate to a location using only the directions: forward, left, right to visually show how coding works. Once students had mastered the basics of coding, they worked together to code Bee Bots.
The afternoon of the camp was spent building creating their own robot out of homemade playdoh and working with Dash and R2D2. Youth sculpted their robots out of the playdoh and strategically placed pipe cleaners, googly eyes, and beads to make their robot come to life. The last part of the afternoon was dedicated to building R2D2 and working with the creative robot Dash. Each student learned how to use littleBits and build R2D2’s internal structures and outer shell. With Dash, students went on adventures with him using the Blockly App. They solved puzzles, played games, and experienced how fun coding could be.
