ISU Extension and Outreach Delaware County to Host Summer Day Camps!

During the summer, ISU Extension and Outreach Delaware County, will be hosting several day camps throughout the county. These camps will be packed with fun hands-on activities and feature a variety of topics and interest areas.  The same day camp will be offered multiple days in different locations.  Please make special note of the date and location of each camp. 
The first camp will be “On My Own and Okay”, this camp will be held at Seibert Park in Manchester on June 11th and at Johnston Elementary in Hopkinton on June 13thfor youth in 3-6th grade. At the camp, youth will learn to make simple snacks, prep their own lunch, and learn to structure their time when home alone or with siblings. Camp goers will also make summer buckets lists and learn fun, safe activities they can do at home during the summer!
“Robot Mania”will be held on June 18th at Seibert Park and June 20th at James Kennedy Public Library in Dyersville for youth in K-3rd grade. Youth will get to meet Dot, the brainy robot and Dash, the fun-loving creative robot.  The day will be spent interacting and playing with these two unique robots with five different coding applications.  With a special guest R2D2 making an appearance at camp as well!
At the Community Center on the Fairgrounds in Manchester on June 24th we will be hosting the “Science of Beef BBQ” for youth in 6th-9th grade. A one of a kind day camp experience, the Science of Beef BBQ will explore the art of grilling, perfecting cooking temperatures, and how the composition of meat can affect the barbecuing process.  Youth will get to practice grilling and create their own recipes.  This day camp will be offered from 9:00-3:00 p.m.
“Zombie Apocalypse Survival Camp”will take place on June 25th at Seibert Park, and June 27th at Colesburg Community Center for youth in 3rd-6th grade. Camp goers will study the basics of preparing for a zombie apocalypse including how to cook and stay warm without attracting zombie attention, make a zombie survival bracelet, and how learn how to treat zombie bites.
Youth in 3rd-7th grade will explore the great outdoors with “Quest to be Your Best” day camp on July 1st at Seibert Park.   Camp goers will learn new and exciting ways to be active outdoors through games that will challenge youth physically, mentally, and push them to do their best. 
An exclusive day camp, “Behind the Scenes at the Delaware County Fair” will take place during the 2019 Delaware County Fair on Thursday, July 11th for 1st-5th grades.  Youth will get a backstage look at the fairgrounds, learn about the animals around the grounds, check out the shows, and more.  Drop-off and pick-up will be at the West Delaware Middle School.  Program will take place at the Community Center from 8:00-3:30 p.m.  Cost for this camp is $25 which includes a t-shirt and lunch. 
During “Theater Improv”, youth will take the stage and develop their acting skills through fun games, challenges, and more.  Theater Improv will be offered at Seibert Park onJuly 16th and James Kennedy on July 18th for grades 3rd-6th. 
On July 23rd at Seibert Park youth will travel back millions of years to the days when dinosaurs roamed the earth.  “Digging up Dinos” will explore fossils that were left behind, learn about paleontologists, and dig up some dinosaur bones.  This camp is for Kindergarten through 3rd grade. 
“Makers Space Camp” will be offered on August 6th atSeibert Park and August 8th at theColesburg Community Center, for 3rd-6th gradesYouth will get to express their creative side through tinkering, fiddling, and playing their own way.  They will take time to learn about simple tools and create solutions to different problems and get to make some fun crafts to take home!

Each camp will be held from 7:45 am -3:30 pm, with the exception for the Science of Beef BBQ camp which will be held from 9:00 am - 3:00 pm and Behind the Scenes at Fair from 8:00-3:30 p.m.
