Delaware County 4-H Dairy Quiz Bowl Clean Sweep at 2019 State Contest!

Six Dairy Quiz Bowl Teams represented Delaware County well this year at the State 4-H Contest, held at the Starmont High School. In an unprecedented outcome; a Delaware County Team topped each division while going undefeated! “We came home last year without any division Champions and I think the kids really challenged themselves this year to create a different outcome!” said coach Jennifer Zumbach. Each team each brought home the traveling Champion plaque, given in honor of Connie and Sarah Stewart of Fayette County.
The Champion Senior team topped Fayette County both rounds they met; by bringing a balanced attack. Team members are Amber Engelken- Earlville (Captain), Lauren Goldsmith- Earlville, Sarah Goedken- Hopkinton, and Tara Goedken- Hopkinton. They will now represent Iowa at the National 4-H Dairy Quiz Bowl Contest this fall in Louisville. Our second Senior team lost two solid rounds to the Fayette County team, placing 3rd in the division.Team members are Carter Kruse- Earlville (Captain), Abby Klostermann- Dyersville, and Laney Demmer- Dundee.
In the Intermediate division, our top team met each challenge the day brought; finishing undefeated! Top team members are Lane Domeyer, Delhi (Captain), Alia Domeyer- Delhi, Courtney Goedken- Hopkinton, and Haley Ronnebaum- Earlville. Our second team competed tough in three rounds before suffering their second loss to Dubuque County. Team members are Sage Klostermann- Dyersville (Captain), Sydney Demmer- Dundee, and Katherine Comley- Ryan.
Members of the top Junior Team are Audrey Kruse- Dyersville (Captain), Tyler Hoeger- Delhi, Ford Domeyer- Delhi, and Bianka Ronnebaum- Earlville. They worked well together as they won every match throughout the day. The Second team members are Ashlyn Kruse- Dyersville (Captain), Addison Stoerp- New Vienna, and Maleah Demmer- Dundee. They battled well in each match they had.
Each year the Delaware County DQB members excel on their tests and this year was no different. They recognized the top test score in each division. Delaware County had the top individual test score in the Senior and Junior division- Amber Engelken (Senior) and Ty Hoeger (Junior).
Coaching this year’s teams were Jennifer Zumbach, Brian Bagge, Josh Thibadeau, James Goldsmith,  Amanda Engelken, Becca Hermann with additional help during school breaks from past team members Katelyn Goldsmith, Matthew Lansing, and Tehya Demmer. Thank you to the youth, parents, and those who volunteered time to prepare them for this contest.
