May Spotlight

Joy Rouse is the Human Sciences Specialist in Family Life for Regions 14 and 19. She is a Central Iowa native who has spent most of her life in Boone and Warren Counties with a short stay in Story County while getting a B.S. in Home Economics Education and M.S. in Family and Consumer Sciences – General Studies. Joy’s Extension career started in 1989 as the Home Economist and then County Extension Education Director in Warren County.  During this time, Joy taught presentations for youth, parents, child care providers and did some community facilitation. She was selected to be a specialist in 2009.    As a Family Life specialist, she works with family topics from birth to aging with individuals, parents, child care providers and care givers.  She assists with the Growing Strong Families program in Wayne County as well as the NEST programs in Appanoose, Davis, Monroe and Wapello Counties.  Joy is on workgroups looking at early literacy, parenting, and diversity and inclusion. Because of her connection with the five-credentialed parenting programs she participates in the Iowa Quality Standards Workgroup for the Iowa Family Support Credential.
