A ServSafe Certified Food Protection Manager class with Spanish Interpretation was held on March 13 at the Dallas County ISU Extension and Outreach Office in Adel. There were ten participants who attended this food safety course. Spanish interpretation was provided for the classroom portion, with the class's PowerPoint presentation being displayed in English and Spanish. Participants also had the option to receive their workbook and exam in Spanish.
Several of the class's participants had questions about Standard Operating Procedures for their facilities. I showed them that many foodservice SOPs are available on the ISU Extension website; these are publicly available and provide a good template that each business can modify to their facility's needs.
A variety of establishments and locations were represented at the class. The participants in attendance were from:
Dallas
The Lazy Goose Boba Tea and Ice Cream
Polk
Conmigo Early Education Center x 2
Nachos Tequilas
El Fogo del Chivo
Cerro Gordo
Plaza Mexico x 2
Humboldt County
El Valle Tienda Y Carniceria x 2
Jasper County
Imagine Kids
This class was very successful and there has been interest from local establishments and DIA Inspectors to provide Spanish-interpreted ServSafe Food Safety Manager classes. ISU Extension and Outreach of Polk County will be holding one of these classes on June 12th in Altoona, and we are already seeing a good amount of registrations for that class.
