Event: 4-H Communications Day POSTPONED

Communications Day

It comes as no surprise public speaking has been a fear topping most charts-- sometimes it trumps spiders and heights. Iowa State University Extension and Outreach of Dallas County 4-H’ers will show off their skills and bravery during the Communications Event on Saturday, April 18, 2020 at the Adel Public Library.
Youth may give either an educational presentation or a working exhibit ot they may choose to do both.  Educational presentations will be judged on subject selection, content, delivery, workmanship, personal appearance, ability to handle questions. Working exhibits are informal speeches that take a more interactive approach and are judged based on the suitability and knowledge of the topic, approach, techniques used and the involvement of the viewers.
Members of Dallas County 4-H (grades 4-12) will present from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. Clover Kids (grades K-3) will present from 10:30-11:30 a.m. ***Clover Kids must register by April 10, 2020 to present see "Registration" in the side bar to the right.
An educational presentation gives you the opportunity to teach something to the audience by presenting knowledge or showing them a process. Members have used posters, props and PowerPoint presentations to give their educational presentations!
WORKING EXHIBIT: Hands-on Activities
During a working exhibit, you don't stand in front of a crowd and deliver a speech. Instead, invite passers-by to participate in an on-going activity you have available for them to do. You have the chance to teach your audience one-on-one!
The poster division allows you to communicate non-verbally through pictures and words. Use your creativity to design a poster related to one of the following themes: "4-H is...", "Join 4-H!", A Universe of Possibilities  (2020 Iowa 4-H Youth Conference theme) or "How Do You Fair?" (Iowa State Fair Theme)
