ORANGE CITY, Iowa – Agricultural lenders will receive current useful, research-based information during the Siouxland Ag Lenders Seminar on Thursday, Nov. 1 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Triple Box near Orange City.
Lenders who serve agricultural clients - especially those who work with dairymen - in Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska and South Dakota are encouraged to attend as the seminar will focus on agricultural market outlooks, the farm bill, financial recordkeeping and accounting, and insurance and farm safety procedures.
The second annual Siouxland Ag Lender’s Seminar presents current information that assists lenders and farm financial advisors in their portfolio management. This will be especially true in this era of continued low prices and the unknowns of the new farm bill.
“Ag lenders know that price risk management continues to be a major variable for profitability in many ag enterprises, “said Fred Hall, Northwest Iowa Extension Dairy Field Specialist with Iowa State University (ISU) Extension and Outreach. “For that reason, understanding the current market trends and risks is a necessary part of farm management assistance. Lenders working with dairymen have the additional necessity of understanding a complex system of milk marketing, labor inputs and federal policy implications.”
The list of nationally recognized presenters include:
- Dr. Joe Outlaw, Texas A & M University - 2018 Farm Bill
- Dr. Larry Tranel, Iowa State University - Milking Robots: Do They Pay?
- Dr. Robert Cropp, University of Wisconsin-Madison - Dairy Market Outlook
- Dr. Chad Hart, Iowa State University - Agriculture Market Outlook
- Larry Wyatt, Grinnell Mutual Reinsurance Company - Barn Safety, Fire Prevention and Insurance Required
- Gary Vande Vegte, CPA, CMA, VB & VV CPAs and Financial Advisors - Accrual Accounting and the Necessity of Good Financial Records
The Siouxland Ag Lenders Seminar is hosted through a partnership between the ISU Extension and Outreach Dairy Team, Iowa Farm Bureau and the Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska and South Dakota Bankers Associations.
“Our goal is that Siouxland lenders have a local source for current information which they can use as they begin their annual client reviews,” Hall said.
Registration cost for the Siouxland Ag Lenders Seminar is $80 for the first person from a business and $50 for each additional person that has made the registration by Oct. 26. After Oct. 26, all registrations - including at the door - will be $100 and will not guarantee lunch.
