Register for ServSafe® Food Safety Certification Class to be held November 17 in Denison
Iowa State University Extension and Outreach in Crawford County will be hosting a ServSafe® food safety certification class in Denison on Tuesday, November 17. Ann Parker, Extension Nutrition and Wellness Specialist and registered dietitian, will be teaching the class. Parker is an experienced ServSafe® instructor and exam proctor.
This class will prepare food service employees to become Certified Food Protection Managers (CFPM). Iowa law requires every food establishment in Iowa to have at least one such manager on staff, to ensure the safety of the food served to Iowa residents.
ServSafe® is a program of the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation. Food service employees attend a seven-hour class in order to learn the latest FDA Food Code.  They then  take a 90-question exam the same day, to earn the food safety manager certification. Food service professionals must renew this certification every five years, so that they stay up to date on techniques to prevent food-borne illness. Research has shown that food safety trainings such as ServSafe® significantlyreduce the number of food safety violations a restaurant incurs.
The class will be held 9 am to 6 pm Nov. 17 at the Crawford County Extension office, 35 South Main Street, Denison, IA. The class fee is $150, which includes a 200-page ServSafe® manual, which is mailed to students a few weeks before the class. Since the food safety certification exam is not an easy test, food service professionals are encouraged to study the ServSafe® manual intensively before class. The deadline to register for the class is Oct. 27.  Register online at Payment is by credit card.
