County Fee Statement - Legal Requirement

County programs that collect a registration fee with monies routed through a local county extension bank account need to include the following legal statement on accompanying county program marketing and registration materials.

"The fees for service will be used to offset direct expenses and to support the (insert program area - Human Sciences, 4-H Youth Development, Community and Economic Development, Agriculture and Natural Resources*) County Extension Program."

Example: "The fees for service will be used to offset direct expenses and to support the 4-H Youth Development County Extension Program."

These funds must be used to offset direct expenses related to the fee program area in which the funds were generated.

This is important because program fees may be deducted from the end of year county carryover. Being able to remove program fees from the carryover calculation helps manage fee programs over different fiscal years. So, when in doubt, it is best to include the statement.

Following are examples of which program areas branded programs should use. This list is not comprehensive.

  • For Master Gardeners, use Agriculture and Natural Resources.
  • For Strengthening Families, use Human Sciences Extension.
  • For the Non-profit Management Academy, use Community and Economic Development.
  • For Annie's Project, use Agriculture and Natural Resources.
