The Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Community and Economic Development program is proud to announce that a team of our staff was honored with the Excellence in Partnership to Iowans Award for the tourism training program they developed. The award was presented on March 26 as part of the ISU Extension and Outreach Annual Conference. The team included specialists Abbie Gaffey, Jane Goeken, Diane Van Wyngarden, Steve Adams and Becky Luers.
A client contacted the team, requesting a community workshop on “How to Attract and Retain Travelers.” The target audience for this program? Front-line employees like gas station attendants, food servers, retailers and hotel staff.
The Extension CED specialists developed a two-hour workshop. Van Wyngarden created a research-based curriculum with self-assessments, real-life examples, and economic impact data. Gaffey, Goeken and Adams used their organizational and teaching expertise to work with local host organizations to deliver customized educational sessions and report impacts. The team is currently busy traveling the state, offering the workshop far and wide.
If you would like to host a workshop in your community, contact Diane Van Wyngarden at 641-295-5757 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
