What do you do for ISU Community and Economic Development Extension and Outreach?

At Iowa State University, Steve is responsible for providing community and business development education and planning for cities, counties, small business and various nonprofit organizations around the state.  He has developed and delivered statewide curriculum for leadership, diversity, customer service, downtown urban renewal, tax increment financing, trustee training, local foods and community/organizational strategic planning. 

He has personally secured over $3M in grants for various projects and programming that have been delivered throughout Iowa since 1999.

What is the best part of your job?

I have often told people that I work with the nicest, most intelligent and dedicated folks I have ever been around.

Name one fun thing about yourself that not many people know.

As a lifelong thespian, I have been in over 50 main stage and studio plays and musicals.  My biggest check the box moment(s) were directing my parents in a play and getting to be on stage with two of my three children.

What do you do in your spare time?

Gardening, photography, walking, biking, golf and working on my old Victorian home.

What is one thing you would like to accomplish in this position?

Leave behind a legacy of helping Iowans to become their best.
