Tourism program earns Excellence in Partnership to Iowans Award

The Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Community and Economic Development program is proud to announce that a team of our staff was honored with the Excellence in Partnership to Iowans Award for the tourism training program they developed. The award was presented on March 26 as part of the ISU Extension and Outreach Annual Conference. The team included specialists Abbie Gaffey, Jane Goeken, Diane Van Wyngarden, Steve Adams and Becky Luers.

New Guide Training Workshop and Certification Program to be Held June 13

Registration is now open for a statewide Guide Training workshop to be held in Mason City at the Music Man Square on June 13 from 9:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. The new program is the first of its kind in Iowa, specifically created for staff and volunteers who lead guided programs at Iowa’s tourism attractions, including but not limited to museums, nature and conservation areas, agritourism, and historic sites. The one-day workshop features interactive methods and techniques for creating and delivering dynamic guided programs, with a focus on guiding adult visitors.

Diane Van Wyngarden is a statewide Field Specialist for Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Community and Economic Development (CED), based in Mahaska County.  Diane is a member of the Local Economies team, and has been with ISU Extension and Outreach for 19 years. 

Statewide Guide Training Cancellations

Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, ISU Extension and Outreach is canceling the statewide Guide Training workshops as we are prioritizing the health and safety of all.
