Kaley Hohenshell

What do you do for ISU Community and Economic Development Extension and Outreach?

I help deliver the Community Food Systems program and am a trainer for the Local Food Leader and Community Food Systems certifications and help manage the online modules for both certifications.

What is the best part of your job?

The best part of my job is getting the opportunity to connect with individuals in Iowa and across the nation working in food systems. I love to learn about the different ways communities work together to achieve their goals.

Name one fun thing about yourself that not many people know.

I love to travel. I have been to 6 countries, 30 states and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

What do you do in your spare time?

In my spare time I like to get together with family and friends and spend time outside.

What is one thing you would like to accomplish in this position?

I would like to grow the Local Food Leader and Community Food Systems certifications to where we have individuals certified in every state.

How do you create a #StrongIowa?

Partnering with communities to develop and design their local and regional food systems and helping to create long-term community empowerment through leadership and food system development process certifications.

What have you been up to lately (in your job)?

Our team just finished up a food systems assessment for the Virgin Islands through a FEMA mission assignment and completed a shared-use kitchen assessment for a community project in Pleasant Hill. We recently held both Local Food Leader and Community Food Systems trainings virtually, our classes were filled to capacity.
