Julie Robison

What do you do for ISU Community and Economic Development Extension and Outreach?  I provide assistance with housing readiness assessments, strategic planning, community engagement, municipal council and governing board effectiveness and general topics in local government and planning.

What is the best part of your job?  I really enjoy working with community leaders to help them develop visions and plans that are responsive to their community needs.

Name one fun thing about yourself that not many people know. My dad is from Cresco, Iowa where I spent a lot of summers with my grandmother and cousins; and speaking of ties to Cresco, I once had the honor having Norman Borlaug to my home for dinner.

What do you do in your spare time?  I enjoy travelling, reading, biking and walking my dog Chessie – a very sweet Collie mix.

What is one thing you would like to accomplish in this position?  I am hoping in particular to contribute to improvements in access to housing across the state and to strengthened local governance practices.

How do you create a #StrongIowa?  By sharing practical knowledge that helps communities address their pressing problems.

What have you been up to lately (in your job)?   I just finished a proposal for the College of Design to host the Mayors’ Institute on City Design, a program funded by the National Endowment for the Arts and the US Conference of Mayors. I’m also preparing to do strategic planning with 4H, facilitate Leading Communities, and conduct Rural Housing Readiness Assessments.
