Smart Health: Smart Actions Insurance Workshop

Smart Choice Logo

The Smart Health: Smart Actions Insurance Workshop will include a review of key insurance terms and concepts and an examination of bronze, silver, gold, and platinum plans.  Participants will build information and skills for choosing a health insurance policy that fits their needs.  The workshop will also describe how cost assistance works using Premium Tax Credits, who might be eligible for free insurance, and where to get help with enrolling.
The Health Insurance Marketplace ends on December 15 so it is time for consumers to choose their health insurance for 2017. If you want insurance by January 1st, you need to enroll by Dec. 15th.  Selecting a policy involves more than just looking at the monthly premium cost.  Consumers need to understand out-of-pocket costs and consider their health care needs.
On Monday, November 20th Iowa State University Extension and Outreach will offer a free workshop in Spencer. Smart Choice: Health Insurance is designed to help you understand your options and make the best decisions for your situation.   The workshop will be held from 5:30-6:30 pm at the Spencer Public Library, 213 3rd Street; Spencer, IA.

The workshop will be led by Jan Monahan, Iowa State University Extension Family Finance Specialist, and will be non-commercial and non-political.  It will include a review of key insurance terms and concepts and an examination of bronze, silver, gold, and platinum plans.  Participants will build information and skills for choosing a health insurance policy that fits their needs.  The workshop will also describe how cost assistance works using Premium Tax Credits, and who might be eligible for free insurance.

If you have questions you can contact the Spencer Public Library 712.580.7290 or Jan Monahan at jmonahan@iastate.edu.
