Clay County 4-H is home to nine community 4-H clubs, three special interest 4-H clubs and independent 4-H members. Youth in grades 4-12 may join 4-H and choose a club based on location, age or special interest.

Animal Identification

 

4HOnline Animal Identification Deadlines

Animals must be identified in 4HOnline by these deadlines in order to be exhibited.

  • Market Beef IDs - Due February 1st
  • Breeding Beef IDs - Due May 15th
  • Horse IDs - Due May 15th 
  • State Fair Swine, State Fair Goats & State Fair Sheep IDs - Due May 15th 
  • Clay County Fair Swine, Goats & Sheep IDs - Due June 15th 
  • Rabbit IDs - Due July 1st
Youth for the Quality Care of Animals (YQCA)

In today's world, food safety is one of animal producers' biggest responsibilities.

All 4-H livestock exhibitors are required to be YQCA certified for county and
State Fair exhibition for the following species: Beef, Dairy Cattle, Dairy Goats, Meat Goats, Sheep, Swine, Poultry and Rabbits. 

2023 Instructor-Led (Face-to-Face) YQCA Trainings:

  • March 25, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Iowa Lakes Community College Farm, Emmetsburg
  • June 2,  9 a.m. to 10 a.m., ISU Extension and Outreach Clay County Office, Spencer

Youth can also complete YQCA training online

4-H Scholarships

The Clay County Bankers Association is pleased to be able to offer scholarships to Clay County 4-H Seniors. You must be a current Clay County 4-H member to apply.

Scholarship Application

  1. Complete the written portion of the application including responding to three questions in the Scholarship Application (below) AND complete a 4-H/academic resume, due to the Clay County Extension office by January 4.
  2. Provide 3 letters of recommendation included with step 1, due to the Clay County Extension Office by January 3.
  3. Complete a face-to-face interview with the 4-H Scholarship Panel at the ISU Extension and Outreach Clay County office. Someone will reach out to you to set up a face-to-face interview time. Expect the interview to last around 15 minutes. Business casual attire is appropriate.

Scoring for the Clay County 4-H Scholarships will be as follows: 

  • 30% will be based on the written and 4-H/Academic resume portion of the application
  • 20% will be based on the letters of recommendation
  • 50% will be based on the face to face interview.
