ORANGE CITY, Iowa - Beef producers and agri-business professionals wanting to obtain or renew their Beef Quality Assurance (BQA) certification have four opportunities to do so in June. The BQA trainings are the cooperative effort of the Iowa Beef Center, Iowa State University Extension and Outreach, the Iowa Beef Industry Council, and the Clay, Lyon, Sac and Emmet County Cattlemen’s Associations.

Iowa State University Extension and Outreach’s Annual Farmland Leasing Meetings for agriculture property owners, tenants, ag business representatives and lenders will be held at 11 different locations throughout early August. Each workshop will focus on current farmland value and lease rate trends, methods for determining fair ag rents for 2022 and farmland lease communication and legalities, including how to write and terminate a lease.

June 14, 2021

Faculty from Iowa State University’s School of Education will be leading a workshop, “The Adventure Comes to You: Diversity, Literacy and STEM Education” for early childhood professionals on June 29 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Iowa Lakeside Laboratory in Milford. The one-day summer adventure workshop will feature cutting-edge research and educational tools. Educators, librarians, daycare providers and other youth-focused professionals are invited to attend the workshop in person or join virtually. There is no charge to attend, and those attending in-person will receive complimentary morning refreshments and lunch.

Three Beef Quality Assurance (BQA) trainings will be offered to beef producers and agri-business professionals needing to obtain or renew their BQA certification.  All of the early July trainings will be 10 a.m. to noon, followed by a light lunch at the following locations: July 6 – Crossroads Pavilion Event Center – 301 34th Ave., Sheldon; July 7 – Parkview Event Center – 1303 10th St., Rock Valley; and July 9 – Marcus Community Center – 319 N. Main St., Marcus.

Dairy producers in the I-29 corridor and the United States have a new way of receiving information, thanks to the I-29 Moo University Dairy Consortium. Extension Dairy Specialists from each state develop the industry-specific content for the twice monthly podcast. “The [I-29 Moo U Dairy] podcast discusses current issues faced by dairy producers from economics and animal health, to forage, labor and farm programs,” said Kim Clark, Nebraska Extension Dairy Educator, and one of three regular hosts for the program.

  • The Agricultural Marketing Resource Center is an electronic, national resource for producers interested in value-added agriculture. Browse commodities and products, investigate market and industry trends, study business creation and operation, read research results and locate value-added resources.

  • Data on each county in Iowa including population demographics, education, retail sales, personal income, employment, occupation, housing, and family characteristics.

  • The Iowa Small Business Development Center (SBDC) conducts research, counsels, and trains business people in management, financing, and operating small businesses, and provides comprehensive information services and access to experts in a variety of fields.
