ISU Extension and Outreach in Chickasaw County has an exciting opening for a Summer Assistant!

CHICKASAW COUNTY EXTENSION SUMMER ASSISTANT

 
Position Summary:
This position provides assistance to the Chickasaw County Extension and Outreach Office and to the County Youth Coordinator (CYC) for 4-H & youth programs.  It includes assisting with and promoting the 4-H and youth programs during the summer months. Some nights and weekends are required.  This position is under the supervision of the County Extension Director, but is also accountable to the Chickasaw County Extension Council and all of its policies.
 
Hours:
Position averages 30-35 hours per week.  Position starts at the end of May and ends in early August 2021 for a total of 300 hours. (Exact dates are negotiable.)
 
Responsibilities:

  • Work as a team with all Extension staff, 4-H youth, and volunteers as needed
  • Attend training and staff meetings as required by supervisor
  • Help to maintain a pleasant, cheerful, and helpful atmosphere in the office
  • Maintain confidentiality with all staff and clients
  • Facilitate/teach summer programs with youth in Chickasaw County communities (i.e. day camps, 4-H workshops, and other activities as assigned)
  • Submit records of program participation, program evaluations, etc. as required
  • Assist with Chickasaw County 4-H & FFA Achievement Show
  • Help plan, organize, and prepare for Achievement Show
  • Maintain communications with 4-H’ers, leaders, and parents
  • Create signs and documents
  • Assist with set-up/clean-up days wherever needed
  • Must be available to work July 6– 13, 2021 (Big 4 Fairgrounds, Nashua)
  • Gather and prepare information to submit to media regarding programs, activities, and events
  • Any other related duties deemed necessary to the success of Extension operations in Chickasaw County

 

Qualifications:

  • Interest in working with youth, preference given to college-age applicants.
  • Excellent organizational skills, strong written and verbal communication skills, computer skills, ability to work with a team, capable of coordinating volunteer efforts, and conflict management skills.  
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required.
  • Employment contingent on successful screening in Child Protection Safety Program.
  • Ability to lift 30 lbs. and reach 6 feet with aid of stepladder.
