Farmers Market Pre-Season Vendor Workshop Offered March 16

Farmers Markets of Cass County

The Cass County Local Food Policy Council and Cass County ISU Extension encourage those considering vending at Cass County farmers markets in 2020 to attend the Farmers Market Pre-Season Vendor Workshop. There is no cost to attend this workshop, but pre-registration is requested.

The teleconference meeting will be held from 12:30 to 3:30 PM. Anyone unable to join by phone from home, may join by phone at the Cass County Community Center (805 W 10th St. Atlantic, IA, 50022). Anyone wishing to join by phone at the community center should call the Cass County ISU Extension office in advance at 712-243-1132. 
The pre-season workshop has been designed to cover topics of interest to both experienced vendors and those just starting to consider participating in farmers markets. Experts in the areas of food safety and market licensing requirements, farmers market insurance, and resources from the Iowa Department of Ag and Land Stewardship will present at the workshop. During the last 30 minutes of the workshop vendor information will be provided for Cass County Farmers Markets, including the Anita Farmers Market, the Atlantic Farmers Market, and Produce in the Park.

Insurance for Farmers Market Vendors – Larry Spilker of Campbell Risk Management Larry is an expert in farmers market insurance, and Campbell Risk Management writes both markets and vendors all across the country. Larry will introduce you to the risk exposures that you have while operating as a vendor. He will outline proper insurance coverages so that you can discuss your needs with your agent if you plan to add business coverage to your home or farm policy from another carrier as well as other sources for vendor insurance.
