2020 Carroll County 4-H Livestock and Static Exhibits to be Presented With Social Distancing Guidelines

Dear Carroll County 4H and FFA families,

Hello everyone and thank you for your patience in regards to the 2020 Carroll County Fair. We have been working closely with the Fair Board, our Superintendents, as well as leaders and families. We have heard many opinions, suggestions and concerns and tried to factor all of them into our ultimate decision.

This year, the Carroll County Fair Board has decided to postpone the typical Carroll County Fair and all of its activities until July 13-18, 2021. This decision came from regulations and suggestions from the governor, the CDC, public health, as well as basic concern for the health and safety of the general public. We at Iowa State University Extension and Outreach are also following best practices and guidelines set forth by Iowa State University. While we are disappointed that we cannot participate in typical fair activities, we fully support the fair board in their decision and are excited to be able to offer some opportunities for our youth.

We will still host a livestock show as we typically would, but with specific guidelines in place set forth by Iowa State University and Iowa 4H.

Specific details regarding livestock arrival dates and times will be sent out to exhibitors who have registered their animals in 4H online.

To follow social distancing guidelines, we advise that spectators are limited to immediate family only this year.

Additionally this year, there will not be a gate fee to attend this limited version of the fair. No food or beverage vendors will be on the ground. Families are encouraged to bring their own food and drink with them. Instead of a gate fee and stall fee, we will require an Entry fee per exhibit entered.

Although the shows will continue, they will look differently this year. Decisions made by the Fair Board, The Extension Office, and Superintendents will be final and will not be open to debate. We are working hard to put together an option for our youth and hope that you will support us through these changes.

Additionally this year our Static Judging will look much different. We will be hosting the judging in Carroll at the American Legion on Tuesday, July 14, however this will be non-conference judging. We are requiring exhibitors to drop off their projects at the Carroll American Legion during their Club’s scheduled drop off time on Monday, July 13. Exhibitors will then pick up their project during the same scheduled pick up time on Wednesday, July 15. Due to social distancing concerns, we have chosen to discontinue face to face judging for 2020 Static exhibits. A reminder that members are limited to 3 exhibits this year.

We know 2020 has been very different for all of us and we are navigating these challenges as best we can. We thank you all for your patience and your commitment to the 4H and FFA programs and hope you all stay safe and well. You can find more information in your upcoming June Newsletter as well as reach out to the Extension office at any time at 712-792-2364.

Thank you and be well,
