Faculty from Iowa State University’s School of Education will be leading a workshop, “The Adventure Comes to You: Diversity, Literacy and STEM Education” for educators and early childhood professionals on June 29 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Iowa Lakeside Laboratory in Milford.

Iowa’s rural communities and families may have moved on from stress produced by the COVID-19 pandemic. Unfortunately, weather related concerns may now be a larger factor contributing to farmers’ anxiety. In response, Iowa State University Extension and Outreach is offering weekly, online “Question. Persuade. Refer.” programs now through August, said Demi Johnson, behavioral health program specialist with ISU Extension and Outreach. QPR is a suicide prevention program that teaches participants three steps to help save a life from suicide.

Understanding soils and factors that affect them are key to some of the biggest decisions Iowans will make.  Farmers, gardeners, and home and business owners can all benefit by improving their knowledge of the land beneath their feet. To help with this effort, Iowa State University Extension and Outreach has updated its popular “Soil Judging in Iowa” handbook and the “Iowa Soil Judging Scorecard.”
