One hundred youth from Storm Lake, Storm Lake St. Mary’s and Fort Dodge school districts spent a day Getting Real Together through leadership activities, college exploration and cultural awareness. They were taking part in this year’s GRiT Conference, March 8 at Buena Vista University in Storm Lake.

Every June, almost 900 teenagers converge on the campus of Iowa State University for 3 days full of speakers, workshops, mixers, dances, a banquet, and community service activities.

The Creativity in Service to All Iowans award is presented to a staff member or team that leads creative extension programming efforts that educate Iowa’s rapidly-changing and complex demographics using a cooperative interdisciplinary approach.

The two recipients of the Creativity in Service to All Iowans award were: Nichol Kleespies, Buena Vista County Youth Outreach Educator, and Margaret Murphy, Horticulture Educator and Regional Food Coordinator for Lyon, Osceola, Sioux and O’Brien Counties.

The Buena Vista County 4-H Endowment and Iowa 4-H Endowment have opened their scholarships applications  for graduating senior 4-H members.

  • Clover Kids is a FUN 4-H program for children in kindergarten through third grade. Children participate in hands-on activities designed to build many life skills!

    Addresses youths’ basic needs through the eight essential elements: caring adults, safe environments, inclusive settings, and opportunities for mastery, service, self-determination, planning for the future and engaged learning.

  • Provides financial resources to develop and deliver quality 4-H youth programs and opportunities throughout the state of Iowa.
