4th, 5th, and 6th graders

Boone, Grundy, Hardin, Marshall, Story, and Tama Counties

August 7-9, 2024

Check-in August 7: 9:00-10:00 am

Check-out August 9: 5:30-6:00 pm, followed by

Family BBQ Meal  and Camper Recognition

What: Three fun-filled days of Hawaiian theme-based activities plus outdoor activities including swimming, climbing wall, canoeing, archery, zipline, outdoor cooking, arts and crafts, teambuilding, creek walk, campfire, celebration, and plenty of good food!  Family members are invited to the Friday evening BBQ, closing ceremony, and campfire with S'mores.

Who: All youth completing 4th, 5th, or 6th grades this spring from Boone, Grundy, Hardin, Marshall, Story, and Tama Counties.  Youth do not need to be 4-H members to participate.  Invite a friend to register and list as a cabinmate.

When: Wednesday, August 7, 9:00 am to Friday, August 9, 8:30 pm

  • Check-in August 7: 9:00-10:00 am
  • Check-out August 9: 5:30 pm, followed by Family BBQ Meal and Camper Recognition

Where: Y Camp | 1192 166th Drive | Boone, IA 50036  (northwest of Boone)

Registration and Parent Information

The Parent Information Letter includes directions for completing forms, camp procedures, packing list and camp maps.  All forms for registration are within one fillable PDF document.  Please "Save As" the camper's name.  Either complete the fillable form or print and complete.

Forms include:

  • Registration Form
  • Camper Health History - include a copy of the front and back of insurance card
  • Request for Medications Form
  • Camper Participation Form
  • Water Activity Waiver
  • Camper Release Form
  • Parent Confidential Form
  • Store Form - turn in with money at camp check-in

Teen Counselors

A couple more male Teen Counselors are needed.  They will gain leadership, communication and civic engagement skills planning and leading theme-based activities and guiding campers August 6-9, 2024.  Counselors must be at least 16 years old by August 6.  Counselors are required  to participate in training on August 6 beginning at 9:00 am at the Y Camp northwest of Boone.  Complete the application form below.

Aerospace Interest Group

Who: 4th-12th graders are invited to participate! Here are the different divisions: (Max of 12 per division)

  • Beginners will assemble a basic, high performance Alpha® model rocket
    • Beginners will also enjoy learning the different parts of a rocket, observing the basics of launch and forces (gravity, thrust, lift, drag), and practicing model rocket safety
  • 2nd year members will build a Big Bertha™ rocket
  • 3rd year members will build a Bull Pup 12D™ rocket
  • 4th year members will build a Centuri rocket
  • 5th year members will build a Super Nova  
  • 6th Year and above members will build an Mean Machine

When and Where:

  • Build rockets on Saturdays, May 4 and May 18 at the Boone County ISU Extension Office
    • o Beginners and 2nd years arrive at 9:00 am
    • o 3rd year and above members from 10:30 to 11:30 am
  • Sanding, priming rockets, and finishing tips on Saturday, June 1 at the Boone County Fairgrounds in the Commercial Building
    • o Beginners and 2nd years arrive at 9:00 am
    • o 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th & above years can prime rockets from 10:00 to11:00 am (come and go)
  • Judged Launch on Sunday, June 23 beginning at 5:30 pm at the Boone County Fairgrounds
    • o Date is weather permitting – rain/wind date for judged launch is Sunday, June 30

Cost: $25 which covers supplies to build and launch rockets (make checks payable to Boone County Extension)
