STEM Festival in Boone

Colorful list of STEM festival sponsors

We would like to invite you to be part of the upcoming STEM Festival in Boone. Join us in sharing the excitement of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) with students and families across Boone County!
The goals of the STEM festivals are to promote, inspire and engage youth in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics activities and to introduce children and parents to STEM careers.

Organized like a street festival or county fair, visitors stroll from activity to activity at their leisure. This awe-inspiring morning will feature compelling, educational and entertaining activities, performances and exhibits to boost children’s interest in STEM. Activities will be developed and presented by STEM experts from business, higher education, community organizations and informal education venues.

Exhibit Tips
STEM Exhibits are usually interactive, hands-on experiences. Registration is required:   Registration is open until April 1st.

Here are a few tips to help you succeed at any festival:
• If it interests you, it will likely interest a student. Create a space that is interesting and fun. Consider conducting an experiment, playing a game, providing an interactive demonstration
• Consider the age of the audience. Many festival goers range between kindergarten and 8th grade.
• Focus on one science fact at your booth
• Often people spend 5-10 minutes per booth, so having a quick activity or interaction is important.
• Educational Posters – explaining the science of the experiment are a nice way to enhance your booth
• Display your group or company’s name. If appropriate, hand out flyers or brochures that list contact information for after the event.
The STEM Festival is a partnership between DMACC in Boone, Boone County ISU Extension & Outreach/4-H and the Governor’s STEM Advisory Council.
We are here to help you with booth ideas. Please contact Natalie Hedlund,, Kelly Bergman, or Nancy Woods, with any questions.
