Youth Nutrition & 4-H Outreach Coordinator

Additional Biographical Information:
Sarah Tanis started working with Extension and Outreach in 2019 as the AmeriCorps 4-H Service Member after recently moving to Waterloo. She worked as a 4-H Program Coordinator for Jackson and Trempealeau Counties with the University of Wisconsin-Madison Division of Extension in her previous job.  She became the Youth Nutrition and 4-H Outreach Coordinator in January 2020 and is very excited to be in the Cedar Valley continuing to work with 4-H!
4-H is something that Sarah is very passionate about because she loves all of the fun, new, and sometimes challenging opportunities that you get to try. Before her work with Extension in Wisconsin, and now here in Iowa, Sarah worked in higher education working with residence life and student life. She has a passion for programming and giving youth opportunities to try new things and step outside of their own element.

Sarah's main projects as an AmeriCorps 4-H Service member in our office include coordinating and presenting at after school programs with two local organizations - EMBARC and UNI-CUE. Both after school programs work with middle school youth and have a focus on the 4-H program priorities.  Her main projects in her Youth Nutrition role includes teaching the research-based Iowa State University Kids in the Kitchen program to kindergarten through 5th grade youth.  She continues to build new community partnerships for 4-H, while maintaining and strengthening existing partnerships in her role as 4-H Outreach Coordinator.
