Water Rocks! hosted its first teacher Summit in June, with Iowa K-12 teachers and high school students from nine school districts congregating in Ames. The group received information about some of the greatest environmental challenges faced today as well as innovative ways to teach about them.
The Water Rocks! team came home with 15 awards at the 23rd Annual Iowa Motion Picture Association award ceremony, including three Awards of Excellence in Educational Production.
Water Rocks! is a statewide youth water education campaign in which music is used as a primary component. Partners in the project are Iowa State University Extension and Outreach, Iowa Department of Natural Resources, Leopold Center for Sustainable Agriculture, Iowa Water Center and Iowa Learning Farms.
Visitors at the North Grand Farmers' Market in Ames on Saturday, Aug. 25 will get to see the debut of the newest trailer in the Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Conservation Station fleet. In addition, visitors to the farmers' market will get a preview of the new statewide youth water education campaign " Water Rocks!" that will be launched formally in spring 2013.
Iowa Learning Farms’ Conservation Station is coming to the North Grand Farmers Market in Ames, Iowa, on Saturday, June 30. It will be located at the north end of the JC Penney parking lot from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Iowa Learning Farms is gearing up for another busy season of travel with the Conservation Station, a mobile learning center that encourages all Iowans to help protect and improve soil and water quality. Requests are now being accepted for 2011 events.
