AMES, Iowa -- Registration is now open for the 43rd Iowa Municipal Professionals Institute, an annual event cosponsored by the Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Office of State and Local Government Programs and the Iowa League of Cities. The Institute is scheduled for July 16–20 and July 23–25 at the Gateway Hotel and Conference Center in Ames.
Each year, the Municipal Professionals Institute provides clerks and finance officers from across the state of Iowa with training that gives them the basic framework of how municipalities function and assists municipal professionals with their day-to-day duties.
This training covers finance and budgets, legal requirements, records management, parliamentary procedures, ethics and more. These courses also give participants personalized interaction with faculty and staff from universities and other individuals involved with municipal administration, while updating them on new laws, programs and technology affecting Iowa municipal government.
Classes held during July 16–20 provide a fundamental knowledge base. Classes held July 23–25 provide more specialized training in clerk or finance topics. These courses may be applied as credits toward International Institute of Municipal Clerks municipal clerk certification and/or municipal clerk or municipal finance officer certifications through the Iowa Municipal Finance Officers Association.

MPI and IMFOA also have scholarships available for 2018 to cover registration fees. The MPI scholarships are open to all Iowa municipal clerks. The IMFOA scholarships are open to Iowa municipal clerks who are members of IMFOA. To be eligible, participants must register for at least 30 hours. The scholarship deadline is April 3, 2018.
