AMES, Iowa — Achieving financial goals is not just a matter of money. “It’s about an internal desire to improve your finances,” says Brenda Schmitt, a family finance specialist with Iowa State University Extension and Outreach. “There is a connection between what you do today and what will happen in the future.”
To help Iowans improve their financial future, ISU Extension and Outreach offers an online class, “Your Money Your Future,” the first Monday of each month. The next class is June 3 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Participants need high speed Internet and speakers or headphones to hear the instructor. A microphone or chat box is used to respond to questions or to participate in the group activities. Certificates of completion are available upon request.
“In class we’ll talk about how to develop a spending plan and SMART goals, how to access your credit history without having to pay a fee, how credit cards work and how to avoid the credit card trap, and strategies to improve your credit score,” Schmitt said.
The cost for the class is $15. To register for “Your Money Your Future,” contact Schmitt at 641-512-0650 or email@example.com or Joyce Lash, also an ISU Extension family finance specialist, at 641-464-5003 or firstname.lastname@example.org. After registering, participants will receive, via e-mail, a Web address with class materials to be printed along with instructions on how to log in.
