AMES, Iowa — Iowa Learning Farms will host a field day and pasture walk at Triple C Farms near Leon on Wednesday, July 24. The event will begin at 6 p.m. and focus on pasture improvement.
Jane Hanson, Dow Agri Services representative, and Roth Mullen, Leon MFA manager, will be on hand to discuss weed management for southern Iowa pastures. Todd, Chris and Paul Coffelt, sibling co-owners of Triple C Farms, will lead attendees on a pastureland walk highlighting practices of an EQIP contract. Todd Coffelt is the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship water resources bureau chief. Decatur Soil and Water Conservation District staff will discuss available EQIP cost-share funding to help farmers improve pastures.
The field day includes a complimentary evening meal prepared by the Decatur County Cattlemen. The event is free; the public is invited to attend. The field day site is located two miles west of Leon, on the north side of Highway 2, near the intersection of Highway 2 and County Road J-34 (212 Avenue).
Iowa Learning Farms takes a grassroots approach offering innovative ways to help all Iowans have an active role in keeping our state’s natural resources healthy and not take them for granted. Farmers work with Iowa State University Extension researchers and ILF team members to identify and implement the best in-field management practices that increase water and soil quality while remaining profitable.
