Incorporating a summer annual into the crop rotation provides much needed summer slump grazing while utilizing minimal row crop acres. A winter annual/summer annual forage rotation disrupts the standard corn - soybean rotation. ISU Extension and Outreach is hosting three field days to feature producers utilizing this annual forage rotation.

Farmers and landowners who open their property to the public face some unique risks and responsibilities. To help ensure their operation is following best practices, a group of agritourism experts with Iowa State University Extension and Outreach has put together six checklists that cover the many types of liability an owner may face.

Statewide Resources

  • Forestry information and resources including an interactive tree identification tool, forest health and sick tree resources and emerald ash borer management recommendations.

  • The extension fisheries program offers many educational opportunities and prepares fishery educational materials and programs to meet the needs of clients.

  • Water quality program resources including edge of field and in-field practices.

  • Providing Iowans with an independent, authoritative voice on water resource issues affecting Iowa.

  • Building a culture of conservation by calling attention to the importance of water and soil quality through farming practices.

  • Research-based information and current Extension and Research projects on tillage and cropping systems, soil carbon sequestration, residue management, and cover crops.

  • Comprehensive information on manure management, research and application for Iowa.

  • The Iowa Soil and Land Use site provides data related to the agricultural and non-agricultural uses of Iowa land to help you determine the right use for your soil.

  • Find resources on soil nutrients, nutrient management, soil sampling and testing, interpretations and recommendations.

  • During times of natural disaster, Iowa State University Extension and Outreach offers educational resources to reduce the personal impact of natural disasters, working in partnership with the local, state and federal agencies addressing the disaster.
