Maya coordinates youth educational experiences in the area of crop sciences including agronomy, horticulture, gardening, entomology and plant pathology. She received her bachelor’s degree in Biology from Iowa State University and her master’s degree in Plant Pathology from the University of Minnesota. Her extension program provides educational experiences in crop science fields for youth in Iowa and beyond. This includes writing and reviewing curricula, planning statewide and regional events and programs, providing resources and support for extension staff, as well as working directly with youth across the state. Examples of programs she oversees include the Iowa Youth Crop Scouting Competition, Plant the Moon, Ag Innovators Experience, and Pollinator Education and Action.
