The mission of the Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Master Gardener Program is to use research-based horticulture and gardening knowledge and practices to educate people and coordinate projects that promote healthy communities. Through their participation in educational activities, Master Gardeners also increase their own personal knowledge in horticulture. Master Gardeners extend Iowa State University Extension and Outreach’s consumer horticulture education programs through volunteer activity.

The Plant and Insect Diagnostic Clinic provides diagnoses of plant problems (plant diseases and insect damage) and the identification of insects from the field, garden, and home. The PIDC is a joint effort between Iowa State University Extension and Outreach and the Plant Pathology, Entomology, Horticulture, and Agronomy departments.
