Regional Chili Cook-Offs

Iowa 4-H Youth Development is partnering with ICS Chili to bring a fun and new cooking competition to youth audiences. The ICS World Championship Chili Cook-off® will take place September 7-8 in Ankeny, IA this fall. Participation in these 4-H regional “Pop-Up” competitions will make youth eligible to compete in the international contest.

Register in the competition to showcase your favorite chili recipe, and to learn more on cooking creatively as we spice things up with family, friends and fun!

Let's Get Cookingchili

Youth ages 10-17 will prepare and cook their chili with adult supervision. There are four chili categories youth can enter that recipe into:

  • Traditional Red Chili (no beans)
  • Homestyle Chili (with beans)
  • Chili Verde (made with green spices)
  • Veggie Chili (made without meat)

How to Get Started

Register for 1 of the 5 "Pop-Up" Cook-off Locations

Each event begins at 8 am with Check-In at 7:30 am unless noted differently below.

June 15 - Ottumwa (Wapello County) at Quincy Place Mall

July 13 - Spencer (Clay County) at Riverfront Farmer's Market
Check-in starting at 7:00am and event beginning at 7:30am

August 24 - Decorah (Winneshiek County) at Winneshiek County Fairgrounds

August 25 - Sioux City (Woodbury County) at Southern Hills Mall
Check-in starting at 10:00am and event beginning at 10:30am

$10 Registration Fee due to the local extension office.
*Registration fee is waived for enrolled 4-H members.

Select or create your favorite recipe

Whether you use your secret family recipe, discover one in a cookbook, or get creative in the kitchen and create your own, each cook will need to bring their winning recipe which they will prepare at the event.

Share your talents with us

All supplies and ingredients will be provided.

Each cook will be provided their own cooking space with gas stove top, utensils and ingredients needed. Please review the program guidelines packet for outline of rules, safety, schedule, and ingredients provided. If your recipe includes an ingredient not on this list, please contact 4-H specialist, Laura Liechty,
