Eat Simpler, Healthier with New Healthy & Homemade Cookbooks!!!!
Need a holiday gift or an addition to a personal cookbook collection? The Healthy & Homemade cookbook from Iowa State University Extension and Outreach is a great resource for any family. The cookbook is available from the ISU Extension online store and at ISU Wright County Extension Office in Clarion.
“This cookbook is a collection of recipes that have been featured in Healthy & Homemade calendars over the last few years,” said Peggy Martin, ISU Extension state specialist for the Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP) and the Food Nutrition Program (FNP). “It was originally designed as a way to acknowledge the achievements of families who graduated from EFNEP and FNP, but there was so much interest from others that we made some for the general public.”
According to Martin, the cookbook will be especially helpful for families who have limited time and want to stretch their food dollars. She said it is a valuable resource for anyone who wants to eat simpler and healthier.
Eighty recipes are featured in the spiral bound collection; color photos are included for many of the recipes. The cookbook includes a glossary of cooking terms, abbreviations and measurements, a list of substitutions, tips and options for each recipe, nutrition labels and meal ideas. There is a category for any section of the meal: main dishes, appetizers, salads, side dishes, desserts and snacks.
Individual copies sell for $5 in the Extension online store.
“We’re excited about the cookbook. Reviewers were especially impressed with the helpful tips, menus and extras that were added to make each recipe simple to prepare,” said Martin. “It will make a great holiday gift for any cooking level.”
