What is a Master Gardener?

Master Gardeners are trained volunteers who share a love of gardening, an enthusiasm for learning, and a commitment to helping others. Master Gardeners assist with youth gardening programs, help with horticultural exhibits at county fairs, answer questions at local farmers' markets, assist with community gardens and beautification projects and give horticultural presentations.

The judges training coordinating committee and sub-committee members are busy working to design a consistent training system for new and experienced judges. Next training planned for Fall 2014-2015.

Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Wright County is offering garden webinars for the general public.  Trees are one of the most valuable components of home landscapes..Because weather patterns over the past couple of years have taken a toll on landscape trees, and with the Emerald Ash Borer recently found in adjacent counties, Wright County ISU Extension is offering these educational seminars at no charge to the public.

Angela Rieck-Hinz is the new extension field agronomist for north central Iowa. She brings expertise in crop production and protection to this position, which serves a nine-county area. Farmers, agribusiness and ag partners have worked with Rieck-Hinz in her previous Iowa State University Extension and Outreach position as coordinator for the Manure Applicator Certification Program the past 16 years.
