Angela Rieck-Hinz is the new extension field agronomist for north central Iowa. She brings expertise in crop production and protection to this position, which serves a nine-county area. Farmers, agribusiness and ag partners have worked with Rieck-Hinz in her previous Iowa State University Extension and Outreach position as coordinator for the Manure Applicator Certification Program the past 16 years.

AMES, Iowa – Parents naturally are concerned for their children’s safety, particularly when there is news of a child abduction that happens close to home. Finding the balance between emotions and the “teachable moment” as parents talk to their children is important, an Iowa State University Extension and Outreach specialist says.

Giving to grandchildren doesn’t have to involve money or gift-wrapped packages. As the grandkids head back to school, consider sharing nutrition tips or a love for lifelong learning, said Malisa Rader, a family life program specialist with Iowa State University Extension and Outreach. These types of gifts, along with taking an interest in children’s school activities, can contribute to their success in school.
