Worth County Extension has many programs to offer every group of individuals. We have excellent family programs and resources, wonderful opportunities for youth K-12 to get involved in from 4-H to WCAT, Clover Kids and more. We have outstanding resources and programs for area farmers and residents. Our office is always a wealth of information for anyone looking for an answer - and if we don't know, we'll find out!

Master Gardener

Iowa Master Gardener Classes are scheduled to begin at the Cerro Gordo County Extension and Outreach office on September 29, 2015! Anyone interested in gardening is encouraged to call Cerro Gordo County Extension and Outreach at 641-423-0844! Master Gardeners are individuals who have an interest in horticulture, have taken the Master Gardener training offered by Extension, and use that training to volunteer for 40 hours in their communities.

Lawn and Garden Beautification Meeting August 11th
 
      The Worth and Winnebago Women, Land and Legacy group will host a Flower, Landscape and Tree Care Workshop on Tuesday, August 11th at 5:30 P.M. at the Worth County Fairgrounds at 300 North 13th Street in Northwood. There will be no charge for the program and all the general public is invited to attend. Those attending this workshop will learn about how to properly prune trees, prevent disease and insect infestation in flowers, trees and shrubs, windbreak establishment, purchasing trees, perennial garden care, tree injury recovery, pollinator importance and pollinator-friendly landscaping. The Worth County Cattlemen will be serving a free barbeque beef meal at around 7 P.M.  
          The featured speaker for the workshop will be Rick Pleggenkuhle, Iowa State University Extension Master Gardener who has worked in the tree nursery business for several years. Rick will be joined by Becky Hanson, Worth County Natural Resource Conservationist, who will lead a tour around the walking path at the Fairgrounds identifying potential trees that could be planted in a windbreak. Josh Divan, Worth-Winnebago County Pheasants Forever Biologist will also discuss the importance of pollinator habitats. There will be a handicap accessible mobile trailer for participants to ride on.
