The new 4-H Fish Iowa club will hold their first meeting Thursday, Sept. 4 beginning at 6 p.m. at Bacon Creek Park on Correctionville Rd., Sioux City.
The goal of 4-H Fish Iowa is to develop life skills in young people while helping them exercise leadership and responsible recreational fishing and stewardship of natural resources. The regular meeting day, time and location will be decided at this initial meeting. The program will be led by volunteers and offered through Iowa State University (ISU) Extension in Woodbury County. The club is open to Woodbury County youth in fourth through twelfth grades.
The group will meet at the first parking lot in Bacon Creek Park. In case of inclement weather, the meeting will be held in a park shelter. Participants should bring their rod and tackle with them. Some equipment will also be available for use during the meetings. Fishing license will not be required for the participants.
4-H Fish Iowa incorporates physical education, health, biology, and living skills with a focus on fishing. The program is designed to help youth build self confidence, learn basic fishing skills, and become independent anglers.
