Helping young athletes make smart nutrition practices is the focus of a program from Iowa State University (ISU) Extension and Outreach for coaches, teachers, and athletic directors. “Parents depend on teachers and coaches to give their players accurate information about training diets, supplements, and fluids,” said Jody Gatewood, ISU Extension Assistant State Nutrition Specialist. “These sessions are designed to help coaches and others know what kind of advice they can offer.”

Iowa nonprofit organizations, farm groups and educational institutions are encoruaged to submit proposals for potential funding.

The Corn Nitrogen Rate Calculator is available to help farmers find the maximum return to nitrogen fertilizer applications and the most profitable application rate for their farm. Having adequate nitrogen available is critical for corn production, but given the high prices for fertilizer it is important farmers determine the right amount that is needed on their crops.
