Farmers and crop scouts can identify and keep track of soybean and corn field problems throughout the season by using a new series of  field crop scouting cards. The cards were produced by the Iowa State University Integrated Pest Management program with support from the Iowa Soybean Association.

Iowa Learning Farms will host an urban field day at the Swiss Valley Nature Center near Dubuque, on Wednesday, May 23, from 6:30-8 p.m. The event will focus on urban soil and water conservation as well as updates on work in the Upper Catfish Creek and the North Fork Maquoketa River watersheds.

The annual Western Iowa No-till (WIN) Demonstration Field Day is set for June 12 at the Carstens 1880 Farmstead. Field day topics will include managing planter settings in heavy residue areas, use of cover crops to improve soil structure, a marketing update and weather outlook. Each summer, campers from all over the state visit the Iowa 4-H Center for a week of camp fun. This year, youth enrolled in two camps, Everything Camp and Counselors in Training Camp, will have the opportunity to participate in a research study conducted by Iowa State University Extension and Outreach targeted toward lowering childhood obesity in the state.

The National Sheep Symposium will bring top sheep production experts from across the United States to the Clay County Fairgrounds in Spencer, Iowa on July 27 and 28. Youth can register now for the third annual Bratney Companies 4-H Robotics Challenge at the 2012 Iowa State Fair. The junior division (grades 5-8) will participate on Friday, Aug. 10 and the senior division (grades 9-12) will participate Saturday, Aug. 11.
