Master Gardeners are trained volunteers who share a love of gardening, an enthusiasm for learning, and a commitment to helping others. Perhaps you've met a Master Gardener working at a community garden, teaching a workshop, or answering questions at your county Extension Office. You too can become a Master Gardener if you are interested in learning about plants and gardening, attend the training program, provide 40 hours of service, and are willing to help others.

Iowans have gotten their lawn and garden questions answered by Iowa State University horticulturists for three decades by calling Hortline at 515-294-3108, an Iowa State University Extension and Outreach hotline. With the expansion of the Internet, an email option was added in 1997 with inquiries directed to hortline@iastate.edu. Now the Iowa State horticulturists who support Hortline have assembled frequently asked questions on a Yard and Garden FAQs website at http://expert.hort.iastate.edu/.
